Pak Fai Chan – Founder and Pastor Emeritus

Ps_Chan_1Pastor Pak-Fai Chan and his wife Barbara moved to Los Angeles from Chicago in 1969 and served at the Chinese Evangelical Free Church of Los Angeles for 15 years. The church moved from downtown Los Angeles to Monterey Park, where they started to rent a church and later to build their own church building. In 1984, Pastor Chan saw a need to minister to the growing Chinese community in the East San Gabriel Valley, where there was only one Chinese church at that time. After waiting before the Lord in prayer, CEFC gave him a Sabbatical year, which he used to plant a mission church, the Evangelical Free Church of Walnut, in the area. In 2008, his 50th year of serving the Lord’s ministry, Pastor Chan retired as the Senior Pastor of EFCW. While he has retired, he continues to preach on a monthly basis and participates in various areas of church ministry. Pastor Chan and his wife are blessed with three daughters: Joanna, Priscilla, and Serena, who are all married. They have seven grandchildren.

Zhaohui Yang – Mandarin Pastor

PsYangZhaohui Yang was born and raised in China until the age of 25, when he moved to California to study in the International Theological Seminary (ITS) to pursue theological studies. Prior to that move, he was a student of philosophy with major academic interests in the philosophy of religion, contemporary western philosophy, and the history of Christianity. He was the founding member of the Center for Christian Studies at Fudan University.

His service at EFCW started from 2001 to 2002, when he helped the teaching ministry mainly as a lay person. In 2004, shortly after his service at CEFC Monterey Park, he came back to EFCW to serve in the Mandarin ministry in a pastoral position.
